Typical of the United Counties League, the football wasn`t great but with three young Cobblers lads making their debuts, the Doughboys enjoyed a terrific first half that saw them go into the break 3-0 up, with the visitors having two players sin-binned.
Game over? Absolutely not - and everyone chuckled when joint-chairman Mark Darnell said at half-time when replying to someone who said how well his side had played - "yes, great, as long as Cogenhoe don`t score 4 in the second half!!"
Well, that`s exactly what they did - a change of shape and one or two personnel saw Cogenhoe amazingly turn the game around to lead 4-3.
The referee seemed to play on, and on....watches were constantly checked by everyone - and then in what must have been the 6th or 7th minute of stoppage time, the Doughboys peppered the visitors` goal with long and high balls until one fell kindly and it was 4-4!
There was still time for former Doughboy Aynsley McDonald to be shown a red card for dissent, obviously requesting whether the refs watch had stopped!!
But seconds later he did bring the contest to an end, and as one of the Hereford fans said afterwards: "I think we`ll come back again," especially as he`d found a programme in the club shop that he`d been desperately searching for for years!!
