First team manager Jake Stone comments on the desperately disappointing 3-2 loss against Cogenhoe United on Boxing Day at wet and windy Compton Park.
Desperately Disappointing Derby Defeat

"Away to Cogenhoe on a horrible wet day. Pitch was just about playable. I think early kick-off helped the game go ahead.

“It`s been a little while since we have played. Been stop and start for over a month and ended up playing like it. We had a couple of changes since our last game with George Barnell suspended and Max Johnson injured.

“The game was exactly what we said it would be before the game. Not much going on in midfield for both teams because of the pitch and Cogenhoe trying to catch us with their pace in behind. They have made some signings up front and they are dangerous. We knew that but failed to act on it.

“One down at half time and deservedly so. We created a few bits ourselves but as much as we had chances, they were wasted or lacked that cutting edge.

“Second half, few more goals, result of poor defending collectively from us. Isn’t good enough when a team scores three goals from a similar number of shots. Shows their quality strikers but that can’t be happening. We got into the final third time and time again throughout second half but taking us 4/5 attempts to get that 1 goal. Need to be more clinical and more composed in those areas.

“Bright sparks were Matty Long and Luis Viera second half. We’ve got loads to work on as a defensive unit come the next game. Which again is a ten-day break! Which doesn’t help.

“Fair play to Cogenhoe, they deserved the win. I believe we are playing them again in a couple of weeks so we shall be seeing them again soon.

“Hope all had a good Xmas. We move on and improve or else top eight will move away from us".
